HSE/Industrial Hygiene Intern

WHAT WE OFFER

For the summer of 2025, Covestro’s Health and Environmental Safety (HES) teams are currently seeking an intern for our Baytown, TX site that will last approximately 12 weeks.  The work will be done within the HES arena (Industrial Hygiene (IH), Occupational Health (OH), Employee Wellness and Safety) areas.

HSE/Industrial Hygiene Intern responsibilities for the summer intern include:

  • Coordinate IH sampling across site focusing on assessing physical or chemical exposure risks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Aid in the draft of comprehensive reports related to various Industrial Hygiene surveys include noise, illumination, ergonomics, in line with occupational health best practices.
  • Provide assistance in daily operations, including emergency preparedness and response, by conducting investigations including area air monitoring, noise sampling, lighting surveys, and hazard evaluations.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs related to industrial hygiene and safety.
  • Work with Plant IH group to enter Industrial Hygiene monitoring data into IH database.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support in the investigation of incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in the review and improvement of existing health and safety policies and procedures.

 

 WHAT YOU OFFER

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program with a degree emphasis Occupational and Environmental Health
  • Candidates at the undergraduate level must have completed their sophomore year of studies
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minor in Computer Science or Information Science
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 365, specifically Excel
  • Knowledge SEQL

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to work both independently (once trained) and with a team
  • Possess excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and NISOH regulations
  • Detail oriented, fast learner, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
