Intern: Environmental Planner and Field Scientist - Summer 2025

HNTB’s Environmental Department is seeking an intern to assist in a variety of office and field tasks revolving around the transportation sector.

The successful candidate will work alongside the team, providing support for environmental permitting, wetland delineation, and construction monitoring assignments. We are seeking a candidate with a strong interest in transportation and a desire to grow within the industry. Candidates will have access to mentorship and professional development opportunities. Positions are usually on a part-time, temporary, or co-op basis.

The position is based out of our Boston office. Relocation and housing are NOT provided for these positions.


Job Description

What You’ll Do:

  • Performs a variety of tasks which may be specific to a particular functional area of activity such as preparing reports, tracking and evaluating results, coordinating program developments, answering the phone, receiving messages, transmitting information, making copies, editing documents, handling routine inquires and making appointments.
  • Participates in meetings and interfaces with various teams.
  • Assists management in analyzing various data.
  • Works on special projects and provides research as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

What You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

Preferred Qualifications

What We Prefer:

  • Pursuing a major in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Resource Management, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Studies, Fishery or Forestry, Ecology, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or related field
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Training and/or experience with GIS mapping and data analysis
  • Willingness to perform field work
  • Works well in a team setting
  • Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure
