2025 Summer Internship (U.S.) - Mechanical Engineering Intern
Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a summer intern. Locations will vary based on project needs and may include Houston, TX, Reston, VA, or various project sites.
Mechanical Engineering interns work in multi-disciplinary teams and provide support to the most visible aspects of a project – plant equipment.
Mechanical Engineering interns may be responsible for:
- Selecting and specifying equipment.
- Preparing flow or detailed system piping and instrumentation diagrams.
- Performing system and equipment sizing calculations.
- Establishing facility design requirements and develop the system safety basis.
- Reviewing supplier designs.
- Preparing ventilation and instrumentation diagrams.
- Performing corrosion and erosion evaluations for systems and equipment.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering at an accredited college or university.
- Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields.
- Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree program in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering at an accredited college or university.
- Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
