2025 Summer Internship (U.S.) - Plant Design and Piping Engineer Intern
Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a summer intern. Locations will vary based on project needs and may include Houston, TX, Reston, VA, or various project sites.
The various Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) Engineering tasks at Bechtel demand detail-oriented individuals with multi-faceted skills, particularly in-depth technical expertise, flexibility, enthusiasm for individual and team tasks, and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) interns assist with the engineering specifications and support of:
- Developing site/building general arrangements.
- Generating structural calculations and drawings for piping and pipe supports.
- Generating pipe stress analysis calculations for ASME code compliance.
- Working in the 3D model to develop designs for piping, equipment, HVAC, or pipe supports.
- Examining and analyzing pipe configurations for ANSI/ASME code compliance.
- Optimizing facility layout based on piping and instrument diagrams, client requirements, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements.
- Interfacing with other engineering disciplines, construction, startup, and vendors during the development of facility design.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Civil/Structural, Mechanical, or Materials Science and Engineering at an accredited college or university.
- Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields.
- Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree program in Civil/Structural, Mechanical, or Materials Science and Engineering at an accredited college or university.
- Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
