About the Program

Our Summer Internship Program offers an HR Leadership Development Internship:(HRLDP), which is a unique 12-week opportunity designed for aspiring HR professionals to gain hands-on experience at our Corporate Headquarters in Portland, ME. As an intern, you'll be immersed in one of the world's most strategic companies, working closely with team members across various departments on impactful projects that you will support and even lead.

Our program runs from the end of May to mid-August, offering paid internships with our HR interns required to be onsite at our corporate headquarters. At WEX, we seek out the brightest and most talented individuals. High-performing interns may secure full-time positions or advance into our HR Leadership Development Program (HRLDP), providing a strong foundation for your career with us.

About the Team / Role

 You will be assigned to a team within an HR COE that will help you build your technical skills, business acumen, and strengthen your leadership skills while delivering high impact work. In addition to your individual projects, you'll collaborate with your intern cohort to address a real-world business challenge within the HR department. Throughout your journey, you'll receive guidance and education designed to build your confidence, expand your professional experience, and enhance your leadership skills.

  • You will be paired with an HR mentor 
  • Be exposed to executive and HR senior leadership
  • Get the opportunity to present the outcomes of your projects at the end of the summer to our HR Leadership team 

Experience you'll bring

  • Currently enrolled in a masters degree program (HR/IR, MBA program, I/O Psychology)
  • A proven academic record with a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Prior experience working in HR teams and taking on leadership roles, projects as well as a strong desire to learn and grow as an HR leader
  • Prior leadership experience, through clubs, projects, or other initiatives
  • Experience with Financial literacy and the ability to navigate complex business environments
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills is preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills is preferred
