TEAM INTRODUCTION
The Network Systems team is responsible for developing ByteDance's global network infrastructure, including in-house networking equipment (switches, gateways, optics) and automated management platform. The team is committed to building a high-performance, high-reliability, cost-effective, and globally leading intelligent network to support ByteDance's growing business needs. Team members are distributed in different countries and cities, and everyone collaborates remotely and is goal-driven.

Internships at ByteDance aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. Here, you will utilize your knowledge in real-world scenarios while laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. It runs for 12-24 weeks and begins in May/June 2025. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following start dates below:

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implementation and deployment of high-speed network technologies to support AI/LLM applications.
- Design and development of platforms/systems for monitoring, analysis and diagnosis of large scale AI/LLM network.
- Research and development of high-performance AI communication framework, network protocol stacks, and co-design optimization of host-network-application to improve the scalability, reliability and performance of AI/LLM network.
- Building next generation AI network infrastructure supporting large scale heterogeneous network hardware with innovative and deployable solutions.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a PhD in computer science, electronic engineering, network engineering or related fields.
- Able to commit to working for 12 weeks during Summer 2025.
- Proficiency in computer network and network programming.
- Proficiency in one or several mainstream programming languages, including C/C++, Python, Go and so on.
- Be familiar with the latest advances in the area of high-speed network systems, including RDMA, congestion control, AI network optimization and so on.
- Experience in developing high performance communication frameworks(including NCCL, MPI and RPC libraries) is a plus.
- Experience in developing software systems for AI network diagnosis and performance optimization is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduating December 2025 onwards with the intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description Intern (hourly)
The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $57- $57. We cover 100% premium coverage for Full-Time intern medical insurance after 90 days from the date of hire. Medical coverage only, no dental or vision coverage.
Our time off and leave plans are: Paid holidays and paid sick leave. The sick leave entitlement is based on the time you join.
