Project Engineer Intern

The Scruggs Company, a Georgia construction leader and part of Construction Partners, Inc., has an opening for a Project Engineer Intern in various locations across Georgia. While Scruggs operates in many parts of Georgia, this opportunity is with our Valdosta location. The South Georgia operating region is a great place to receive mentorship from company leaders and be involved in large and small projects.  

 

Primary function of a Project Engineer Intern:

Assist Estimators, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen in securing, managing, and scheduling for various types of construction projects. The work balance will be slightly more estimating than project management but could change over time.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Understand, support, and adhere to Scruggs safety requirements; observe and correct violations as they arise on project sites
  • Plan work and purchase materials with safety in mind
  • Assist Project Manager and Project Engineer with daily project duties
  • Work with Estimators on daily estimating duties
  • Perform takeoffs and work with subcontractors and vendors on pricing for bids
  • Prepare and track all necessary submittals
  • Obtain required material certifications
  • Maintain project files, current drawings, and production records
  • Assist the preparation and submittal of all documentation and records required for change orders
  • Assist in the analysis of cost for extra work.
  • Assist PM and PE in overall coordination of project including subcontractors
  • Build and maintain positive subcontractor relationships
  • Identify, pursue and recover fair compensation for changes in scope and optimize cash flow
  • Assisting with capturing, organizing, and synthesizing important data

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Pursuing a 4-year engineering degree, construction management degree, or a different degree with construction or manufacturing experience highly preferred
  • General knowledge of computer software required, Excel expertise highly preferred
  • Familiarity with HCSS products (HeavyJob and HeavyBid) or other construction systems highly preferred
  • Experience with project planning, scheduling, and estimating preferred
  • Ability to prepare subcontractor scopes of work
  • Familiarity with pricing, purchasing, and preparation of purchase orders for materials and equipment
  • Ability to read and understand drawings
  • Someone who is hungry to learn and contribute to a winning team
  • A basic understanding of data analysis would be a huge plus in this role
