Junior Formulator Chemist

We seek a Junior Formulator transitioning to Technical Service in Sales role with our client in Huntsville, Al. Responsibilities include assisting with formulating new products, color matching, and improving existing products.

Our client is a manufacturer of high-performance coatings, primarily focused on industries like automotive, marine, and industrial sectors. They specialize in producing custom paint and coatings for various surfaces, including metals, plastics, and composites. Their product lineup typically includes primers, basecoats, clearcoats, and specialty coatings designed to provide durability, protection, and aesthetic quality to products. In addition to their manufacturing services, they offer color matching, product development, and technical support, working closely with clients to meet specific performance and visual requirements.

This role involves communicating with colleagues, customers, and suppliers on project-related matters, managing schedules and logs for lab requests, and participating in project completion. It includes coordinating with formulators and technicians to meet departmental goals, assisting in the development of new colors and products, and conducting qualification testing. The position also involves providing technical services to customers, supporting production scale-up and troubleshooting, writing reports, maintaining records, and adhering to safety and housekeeping protocols. Additionally, the role contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and completes other assigned tasks as needed. If you demonstrate the ability to regularly perform all skills successfully with minimal supervision and review, the next step would be:

Technical Service in Sales. This position is responsible for supporting customer needs, collecting customer usage and forecasting data, and developing/maintaining relationships with key customer contacts to promote/sell coatings products, services, and technologies.
This role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with key customer contacts while managing daily operations and projects at assigned accounts. Responsibilities include collaborating with supervisors to report and address issues with the USP Lab Team, QA, and production staff, developing customer application line correlations, and monitoring color consistency, inventory, usage rates, and performance at customer sites. The role also involves communicating color adjustments, assisting in process problem-solving and preventive actions, supporting project work, and coordinating schedules and team meetings with supervisory input.
