Summer 2025 Internship - Operations Technology/GIS

2025 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration.  Duquesne Light’s internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH’s Hybrid Work Model (described below).
  • Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

 

Overall Purpose:

From maintaining our overhead and underground equipment to protecting our critical infrastructure and so much more, Duquesne Light Company’s (DLC) Operations department keeps the lights on and the grid intact. Every Operations employee plays a critical role in ensuring that DLC powers the moments in our customers’ lives. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Substation QA & Model Testing - build out test cases within Azure Dev Ops.
  • GIS Wiki - documentation for user adoption & data governance activities.
  • Training Materials within LMS and business process updates - assisting with building out more robust training materials for our organization via the LMS platform, plus exposure to ArcFM Web and ArcFM Mobile workflows within the organization.
  • Support web applications, documentation, process review and report automation.

 

Education/Experience:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

 

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

 

Physical Requirements:

Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment with some time working remotely, and some time required to be in-office/on-site. Candidates must be within close proximity to Pittsburgh.  

 

Other:

Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and social media screen.

 

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
