Job Summary

This position exists to provide Remediation Division with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technical support of program data for contaminated sites.  The position assists the programs to define GIS needs, carries out GIS work to meet those needs, and produces maps and spatial analysis.  This position will be responsible for the development, management, improvement, and analysis of Remediation Division data including the collection, interpretation and communication of data and information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of professional experience managing scientific data; querying databases; performing quantitative analysis, spatial analysis, statistical modeling; and analyzing and reporting on data.  OR

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or other Natural Science; or Statistics or other related degree with a broad knowledge of environmental sciences, natural sciences, or Geographical Information System (GIS) with 2 years of professional experience managing data; querying databases; performing quantitative analysis, spatial analysis, statistical modeling; and analyzing and reporting on data.

AND

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience communicating and collaborating with others in a work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing, developing, and conducting data analysis and GIS projects from a wide variety of datasets.

Experience in a variety of data science (data collection, management, analysis, processing, evaluation, visualization, etc.) software such as GIS software, Tableau, SQL Developer, MS Access, Python, R, or other statistical analysis software.

Ability to evaluate and interpret scientific data.

Understanding of the relationship and application of various tools and models (e.g. query, metadata, etc.) within GIS.

Experience manipulating and managing large datasets with a wide variety of approaches and tools.

Possess an understanding of environmental remediation programs (Superfund, Petroleum Remediation, Brownfield, Closed Landfill).

Knowledge of Federal and State regulatory framework and their applicability to data projects.

Organizational skills to balance several efforts simultaneously and ensure projects are completed timely.

Physical Requirements

Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel, but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
