Communications and Marketing (Business) Intern

Job Description:

We seek a driven and creative intern pursuing a degree in Communication, Marketing, Business, or a related field to join our Communications and Marketing Intern team. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, marketing strategies, and partnerships related to health and wellness for men and boys.

In this opportunity, you will be working directly with the Director of Communications. 

 

Responsibilities:

- Assist in developing and implementing communications and marketing strategies to promote the organization's mission, programs, and initiatives.

- Create engaging content for various channels, including website, social media, newsletters, and blog posts, to raise awareness about the health and wellness of men and boys issues.

- Monitor and track social media platforms, respond to inquiries, and engage with the organization's online community.

- Support the design and production of marketing materials, including brochures, posters, and digital assets.

- Overhaul existing designs for SWAG and online shop assets (such as t-shirts, mugs, etc.).

- Assist in coordinating and executing public awareness campaigns and events to promote men’s health and wellness.

- Conduct market research and analysis to identify target audiences and trends in the field of men's health.

- Collaborate with team members to develop strategic partnerships with other nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and corporate entities.

- Assist in collecting and analyzing data related to communication and marketing efforts, and generate reports for evaluation and improvement.

- Provide administrative support as needed, including data entry, scheduling, and organizing documents.

- Utilize graphic design best practices through platforms such as Canva and Photoshop.

 

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Communication, Marketing, Business, or a related field.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.

- Familiarity with social media platforms, content creation, and content / community management.

- Strong interest in the health and wellness of men and boys, public health, and / or policy advocacy.

- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

- Detail-oriented with a keen eye for visual aesthetics and branding.

- Knowledge of marketing strategies, market research, and audience analysis.

- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.

- Prior experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, or business-related roles is a plus.

- Basic understanding of graphic design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva, is a plus.

More About Men’s Health Network:

There is an ongoing, increasing and predominantly silent crisis in the health and well-being of men. Due to a lack of awareness, poor health education, and culturally induced behavior patterns in their work and personal lives, men's health and well-being are deteriorating steadily.

The men's health crisis is seen most dramatically in mortality figures. In 1920, the life expectancy of males and females was roughly the same. Over time, the ratio of male mortality to female mortality has increased in every age category.

Men's Health Network (MHN) was created to address the growing men's health crisis.

 

The goals of Men’s Health Network are as follows:

1. To save men's lives by reducing the premature mortality of men and boys.

2. To increase the physical and mental health of men so that they can live fuller and happier lives.

3. To significantly reduce the cycles of violence and addiction that afflict so many men.

4. Energize government involvement in men's health activities so that existing government health networks can be utilized to increase the health and well-being of men and boys.

5. Develop support for men's health among the general population and within the health care system.

Nonprofit Status & Statement:

Men's Health Network (MHN), as a nonprofit organization, adheres to the United States Department of Labor's requirements for unpaid internships by ensuring that their internship programs are primarily educational and for the benefit of the interns. In compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), MHN provides training that is similar to that which would be given in an educational environment, including clinical and other hands-on training, and the internship experience is for the benefit of the intern, not the organization. 

MHN ensures that interns do not displace regular employees but work under close supervision of existing staff. Additionally, MHN clarifies that there is no promise of paid employment at the conclusion of the internship, and both the organization and the interns understand that the interns are not entitled to wages for the time spent in the internship.
