POWER (People Organized Working Evolving Reaching) is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to provide assistance to low-income, minority, and underserved communities and create sustainable futures with the capacity to build and thrive, eliminating disparities in aging, education, family wellness, food-insecurity, homelessness, housing, social justice and reform. We need a volunteer services manager to build, develop and maintain a robust volunteer database.
Position Overview:
▪ Research and develop a robust database of major corporations and organizations that offer Volunteer Service Off (VSO) policies.
▪ Create a robust database of volunteers based on their skill, days and times available.
▪ Recruit volunteers from Junior High School, High School, and college and universities, fraternities, sororities, civic organizations, senior citizen clubs and the general public.
▪ Create flyers and advertisements to achieve recruiting results
▪ Each month set recruiting goals of 25% increase.
▪ Post volunteer opportunities on social media, Handshake, newspapers
▪ Schedule in-person training, when needed
▪ Meet with corporate Human Resources to encourage volunteering.
▪ Design and maintain a way to track each person’s volunteering and provide verification when asked.
▪ Advertise for, screening, and recruiting volunteers, providing them with training and support, tracking their performance, and keeping records of their activities.
▪ Creating activities to supplement and support staff needs.
▪ Ensure adequate volunteer coverage is available at events and community outreach engagements.
▪ Advertise volunteer openings on various platforms and provide weekly reports of the results.
▪ Create volunteer training manuals to include all Federal, State and local requirements as well as program specific requirements (i.e. informed consent, de-escalation, etc).
▪ Ensure all volunteers are properly trained prior to engaging clients. Maintain accurate records of training completion.
▪ Verifying the volunteers' availability, receiving their feedback, recognizing their efforts, and answering their questions.
Volunteer Services Coordinator Requirements/Skills:
▪ Preferred experience within non-profit fundraising and/or outreach activities.
▪ Possess or currently enrolled and working towards a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, or related fields.
▪ Knowledge of appropriate software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
▪ Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
▪ Strong experience preparing reports preferred
▪ Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
▪ Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms.
▪ Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
