Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Scientist/Engineer, Battery Specialist for our Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Shanghai, China. In this role, you will work as part of a team to brainstorm and innovate solving real world industrial problems, conducting materials, and mechanical failure analyses as well as product development and accelerated testing, with a primary emphasis on battery powered devices ranging in size from wearables to electric vehicles to grid scale storage. The role involves extensive collaboration with scientists and engineers across Exponent’s global network of offices.
You will be responsible for
- Supporting an expansive internal client base that works collaboratively to solve complex, real-world problems associated with the application of batteries across multiple business sectors
- Leveraging state-of-the-art equipment and contributing to the development of custom investigation methods and tools in order to implement high-value solutions
- Managing a variety of complex, interdisciplinary projects relevant to new technology implementation, while ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets
- Providing written analysis relevant to risk management and dispute resolution decisions
- Gathering and researching information from and conveying technical conclusions to professionals in engineering, business, law, and industry
You will have the following skills and qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering and familiarity with Electrical Engineering principles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute
- Specialized knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray, or interferometry) is required
- Experience with battery materials and characterization is beneficial
- Written and verbal fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese
- Experience with manufacturing processes and control is desired
- Experience with failure analysis/critical problem solving is desired
- This is a Shanghai-based position. The successful applicant must live in (or be willing to relocate to) the Shanghai area AND be enthusiastic about regularly working in the office
