American National Insurance Company was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Galveston, TX., with several locations across the US: League City, TX., Houston, TX., Springfield, MO., and Glenmont, NY. Our Internship Program is designed to provide young professionals with corporate experience that is not offered in the classroom. In addition to supporting their respective department, each intern will have the opportunity to attend professional development sessions, volunteer within the community, and attend company sponsored social events.
Our 2025 summer internship program begins on Monday, June 2 and ends on Friday, August 8. Intern positions are paid hourly with a full-time schedule (Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week) for the entirety of the program.
Internship Program Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited institution
• Must hold a Junior standing or higher (May 2025 grads are welcome)
• Must possess a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Must be able to commit 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday
• Must be able to work onsite in the posted location of the role
Internship Department: Financial Reporting
Location: Houston, Texas
Team Description:
The financial reporting accounting team at American National, hold critical roles within the organization by maintaining, preparing, and editing financial reports that are shared with leadership teams to influence important company decisions. Collaborating closely across the enterprise with the accounting/finance teams, you will work with journal entries, reconciliations, and provide assistance with reporting. You will also learn important industry skills in an environment that offers you an inside view of complex transactions, and interesting investments.
What we’re looking for:
• Candidates pursuing a degree in accounting or finance
• Junior +
• Currently enrolled or taken college courses that reviewed financial preparation and analysis accounting functions
• Exposure to balance and income statements
• Detailed oriented with the ability to successfully operate in a deadline driven environment
• Ability to communicate with team members when discrepancies are found and share recommendations to resolve
• Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter
• Strong organization skills
• Proficient in Excel
What you can expect to do in the role:
• Prepare journal entries and reconciliations
• Assist with financial reporting and other accounting related functions
