Level III: $53,271.04 - $62,535.56 Based on Experience
Level II: $45,109.45 - $51,260.75 Based on Experience
Level I: $42,460.80 - $48,250.91 Based on Experience

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing specialized technical engineering activities related to ongoing projects. Reports to a Senior Engineering Specialist, Engineer III or Senior Engineer. There are three (3) levels of Engineering Technician distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Designs and modifies engineering site plans to ensure conformance with established water distribution and design standards. Conducts engineering investigations and field studies for analysis of patterns, condition assessment and research data. 

Conducts or assists in preliminary reviews of construction plans and site specifications to ensure compliance with prescribed standards; completes routine cost estimates. Conducts onsite meetings with citizens, outside agencies, contractors, or City personnel. Prepares engineering drawings, maps and sketches using computer aided drafting, standard drafting and GIS tools. Researches and analyzes information, records, codes and regulations. Assists in processing of proposals, contract bids, project change orders; assists in scheduling requests, ensures proper documentation, assists with gathering information necessary for final payments to contractors and assists divisional personnel and the public by providing information upon request. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Engineering Technician I – Requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and 1 – 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Engineering Technician II - Requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and 3 - 4 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Engineering Technician III - Requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and 5 - 6 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. 

• Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). 

• Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or work station. 

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS 

• Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, textures, and visual cues or signals. 

• Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
