Outreach, Culture, and Engagement Intern

Internship: This position is a paid, full-time, limited term assignment that offers interns the opportunity to gain substantive hands on experience. Interns enjoy the opportunity to get training and mentoring from experienced professionals in one or more areas. Interns may also be eligible to continue working part-time through the fall and spring semesters, depending on department and agency needs.


The Outreach, Culture, and Engagement (OCE) Program at TRS serves as trusted advisors and confidants to TRS staff to help ensure a safe and inclusive work environment. The OCE Intern will have an opportunity to support initiatives across the agency, including Benefit Services, Investment Management, Health Insurance Benefits, and Finance, with a primary focus on gaining practical work experience and business skills for personal development or to satisfy educational requirements. The Intern will work closely with senior level staff on a variety of projects related to their field of study and outreach, culture, and engagement.

This position will start June 4th and will end August 8th 2025.
Salary will be dependent upon education level:
Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) - $19.50/hour
Graduate Student - $21.00/hour


WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Outreach, Culture, and Engagement Program
• Works closely with OCE team to identify organizations and schools with which to establish a connection/collaboration for OCE related recruitment goals.
• Updates master list of (professional) organizations, student club/organizations, school and rationale to target.
• Develops activity and communication plans with tracking for each group.
• Assists with supporting OCE talent pipeline development plans for identified TRS business units.
• Focuses on execution of communication and engagement activities and tracking.
• Supports OCE Director in executing on other elements of plan.
• Supports OCE Specialist in developing and establishing relationships with identified organizations to share just in time opportunities as well as host professional development activities.
• Assists in the promotion of TRS opportunities.
• Researches cross-promotional opportunities with school partners around alumni awareness and engagement.
• Assists with maintaining internal TRS OCE Program communications.
• Prepares monthly emails in collaboration with Organizational Change Management and Learning and Development teams.
• Updates the OCE intranet site with OCE activities as well as articles of interest, book clubs, video projects, TRS OCE and related community activities on the OCE calendar.
• Identifies and includes other departments and groups for collaboration on executing activity and communication plans.
• Develops in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team, a sourcing and communication plan designed to generate a diverse applicant pool for positions at all levels of the organization.
• Develops and drafts e-communications that resonate with target populations.
• Creates resource list for posting, sharing, promoting opportunities to target populations and networks.
General Support
• Supports the OCE Director in the execution of the OCE plan related to diversity recruitment.
• Identifies and includes other departments for collaboration on executing activity and communication plans.

• Performs related work as assigned.
 


 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Required Education
• Currently enrolled in and actively attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student with a declared major in human resources, business administration, organizational development, communications, training, or a closely related field AND within 12 months of graduation; OR
• Currently enrolled in and actively attending an accredited college or university as a graduate student (Master or Doctoral) in human resources, business administration, organizational development, communications, training, or a closely related field AND within 12 months of graduation.
• Applicant will be required to submit a copy of official college transcript.
Required Experience
• None.
Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
• None.
Preferred Qualifications
• Strong writing skills. Writing samples attached to the online application are strongly encouraged.
• Strong knowledge in social media.
• Strong interest in HR, recruiting, employee engagement, and/or organizational culture.
• Strong research and analytical skills with ability to secure data and make recommendations.
• Must be motivated, organized and possess strong communication skills.
• Experience using Microsoft Office software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• General office practices and procedures.
• Concepts and practices of proofing, editing, and preparing informational materials.
Skills in:
• Organizing and prioritizing work to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment and completing work accurately while meeting deadlines.
• Conducting data searches and evaluations of large amounts of information, performing complex analysis of the data, and preparing concise and accurate reports and written/oral recommendations.
• Verbal and written communication of complex information that is accurate, timely, and based on sound judgment.
• Providing quality customer service.
• Reviewing documentation; properly applying complex laws, regulations, rules, and policies; and making decisions based on sound judgment.
• Using a personal computer in a Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) environment, and accurately performing data entry.
Ability to:
• Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and other external contacts.
• Work effectively in a professional team environment.



Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Codes:
