Job Overview:
The CJIN Service Desk (IT System Support) provides user and operational support for Montana’s Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN), Montana’s Missing Persons Clearinghouse, Montana’s AMBER Alert, Blue Alert and Missing Endangered Person Advisory Programs, Montana’s Concealed Weapon Permit File, and the CJIN Online learning Management System.
This includes troubleshooting statewide CJIN system outages, IJIS Broker and individual state file outages, network and local law enforcement interface communication issues, and basic hardware and operating system problems.
When unable to resolve an issue, personnel will escalate the problem to the appropriate resource, monitor the situation until it is resolved, and in the case of actual outages, notify appropriate management.
The CJIN Service Desk personnel will also actively monitor message queues, assist with CJIN software installations and web browser issues, provide support for the Montana Portal, and guide local agency IT staff on procedures for replacing CJIN computers.
Duties also include verification of CJIN terminal configurations, general user management, monitoring the Montana Control Terminal, broadcasting administrative messages, handling hit confirmation violations, researching and resolving CJIN transaction failures, testing CJIN system changes, and FBI technical operational updates (TOU).
Completing monthly large file downloads for record validations, monitoring quality control message, answering a variety of questions on policy and procedure from CJIN users at various technical skill levels, conducting offline log searches in support of criminal investigations, gathering information and providing support for CJIN interface projects.
Performing data entry of concealed weapon permit records and criminal history dispositions into state databases.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in information technology or related field.
- One year of experience working on a help desk or in a desktop support role.
- Other combinations of education, certification or experience may be substituted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- This work requires knowledge of computer science including electronic communication systems; database utilization, computer troubleshooting and problem-solving methods and techniques; mainframe, mid-range, and microcomputers and peripherals; and printers, communications equipment and associated software. The position also requires knowledge of data quality control and system auditing methods and techniques.
- Required for proficient performance: Extensive knowledge of network communications equipment; federal and state statutes concerning criminal justice information systems; the organization and operation of criminal justice agencies in Montana; criminal record keeping systems; privacy and security laws, rules and policies; Department of justice rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; maintenance and security related functions; public relations principles; and governmental record keeping requirements and practices.
- Skills: The position requires skill in responding appropriately to trouble calls; systematically and methodically isolating problems, either personally correcting problems or coordinating events to correct the problem; communicating well with people of varied technical levels; working with computer systems; and working to determine problems and solutions for computer system issues. The position requires skill in the operation and use of electronic data processing equipment including mainframe, mid-range computers and peripherals, microcomputers, printers, network communications equipment and associated software.
- Incumbent must be CJIN certified within six months of hire.
