Engineering Aide I
The City of Saint Paul Public Works Department is hiring for two vacancies within Street Design to perform engineering technician work involving land survey, traffic studies, routine construction inspection, project design, and drafting. Land/Construction Survey will assist field operations with construction layout and data collection, Maps and Records will be office support for maintaining records and public engagement.
Here's what you can expect to do:
Land/Construction Survey Crew - 1 vacancy
- Assist in staking streets, sewer, and water main during construction projects.
- Aid in setting up work zone traffic control systems for various engineering and land surveying projects.
- Index, file, and maintain various construction and land survey records.
- Assist in LIDAR data and equipment.
- Ensure that the crew has the materials and equipment necessary to perform the day’s tasks.
- Test, maintain, and clean survey equipment.
- Assist on mapping projects with the GIS department.
- Assist in CAD software such as processing data and computations.
Maps and Records - 1 vacancy
- Assist with answering telephone and e-mail inquiries for Maps and Records.
- Provide limited assistance in issuing official addresses per Legislative Code guidelines for permits, change of address requests, land subdivisions, requests for additional addresses on a property, and for various structures.
- Assist in issuing permits and reviewing lot split applications.
- Assist in maintaining and updating as-built records, right-of-way, lot surveys, plats, and other City records using FileMaker Pro, Excel, microfilm, logbooks, and the Card Catalog.
- Provide limited assistance to external and internal customers to access as-built records, plats, maps, surveys, and other historical records.

Information Specific to this Position:
Anticipated hours for this position will be Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM with room for flexibility.

Position Requirements:
High School graduation or General Education Development Certificate (GED) with high school or post secondary course work in mathematics including algebra and geometry.
Some positions may require a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.
