State Park Intern - Cook Forest State Park (College)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will collaborate with the environmental education team to facilitate both recreational and educational initiatives, as well as support various park events. You will engage in the management of invasive species, specifically focusing on the application of hemlock woolly algaecide and other invasive plant control measures. Your responsibilities will also include aiding campground operations and providing assistance to campground hosts as required. You will familiarize yourself with the park's reservation system to effectively handle bookings and point-of-sale transactions. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in maintenance tasks by helping staff with basic repairs, landscaping, and various projects. Additionally, you will contribute to the restoration of park trails to enhance accessibility and mitigate erosion concerns. Providing assistance to visitors will be a key part of your role, as you will direct inquiries to the appropriate personnel regarding recreational activities, natural features, facilities, and park regulations. Communication with staff and the public will be facilitated through the use of a phone and two-way radio. Participation in Commonwealth training sessions and other meetings will also be expected, with further details on additional responsibilities outlined in the position description.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
 

  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Position may require to work nights and weekends

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor’s degree or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
    • Parks and Recreations
    • Environmental Science
    • Resource Management
  • An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable.
  • Freshman year completed
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university


 

Additional Requirements: 
 

  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
