Mountain Biking Instructor

In search of a young man or woman to serve as a Mountain Biking Instructor for our summer program. We are a Christian summer camp located in Black Mountain, North Carolina and are looking for someone who is a skilled biker, capable instructor, and great at working with kids. Teaching mountain biking skills to a variety of levels (and ages) and leading off-site trips.

| Time Commitment and Perks |

Our mountain bike staff will arrive on May 25, 2025 and depart August 8, 2025. Staff will work 6 days a week, having one day off and one evening off each week. This is a full time, seasonal paid position which includes lodging and meals.

| Qualifications |

21 years of age or older. WFA preferred. CPR/First-Aid required. Applicants must display and value maturity, professionalism, positivity, grit, self motivation, and skills working with children.

Mountain Biking Head Job Description

Qualification:

  1. Three years MTB experience, current WFA, WFR preferred 
  2. Experience training and supervising instructors
  3. Ability to repair and maintain bikes

General Responsibilities:

  1. Promote the vision of camp and its directors
  2. Provide for the exceptional maintenance and safety of all equipment and supplies
  3. Ensure program is consistent with ACA and camp operating procedures
  4. Other duties that the directors deem necessary for the operation of camp

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching And Leadership
  2. Initiate a program based on the camp bar system and post bar requirements
  3. Have a written lesson plan prepared at least one day in advance
  4. Facilitate weekly team meeting w/ mountain bike instructors
  5. Oversee off-site trip program
  6. Supervise and provide ongoing feedback for instructors
  7. Take role before each class, while always checking the trips out list, reporting missing campers if necessary
  8. Organize in camp “Sunday Rides” to recruit more campers to the program
  9. Development and Maintenance
  10. Oversee and document the maintenance of bike fleet, ensuring we have safe and high performing equipment in a range of sizes for campers and that they are securely stored
  11. Check equipment for safety and good repair prior to each use
  12. Develop and refine mountain bike curriculum
  13. Promptly make the director aware when new equipment or supplies are needed
  14. Other Program Responsibilities
  15. Work with trunks and parking on opening and closing days
  16. Work two evening activities each week

Marks for Success

  1. Your area of camp is clean, organized and supervised
  2. You make 3 new friends by the end of first session
  3. MTB is in the top 3 activities favored by campers on mid session evaluations
  4. 2 staff ask their Program Directors to be put in MTB to teach
  5. At least one CIT per session applies next year applies for MTB next year
  6. You end the session with more campers in the program than you started with
  7. You are more engaged with the gospel at the end of the summer than at the beginning and attend staff worship, staff Bible study or church at least once each week
