HR Compensation and Classification Internship

Overview

The Louisiana State University Office of Human Resource Management (HRM) takes part in an academic year-round (August–May) internship program. The HRM office is located in central campus, sitting between LSU Library and the Music and Dramatic Arts building at 110 Thomas Boyd Hall. 

LSU HRM’s Compensation Spring 2025 Internship will begin on January 21, 205, and conclude on May 16, 2025. As an intern, you will be a part of a team of interns from several divisions in the HRM department including Training & Organizational Development, Talent Acquisition, and Compensation. On the intern team, you will be provided with professional development workshops, hands-on experience, and connections within the HR profession. This internship could be paid through a work study program. 

The Compensation and Classification section of HRM is responsible for the revision, implementation, and administration of Louisiana State University’s compensation plan including the classification and pay of over 5,300 Academic, Professional, Classified Civil Service, and Graduate Assistant jobs.

The Compensation and Classification team acts as a strategic partner to the departments and serves as a resource for all matters related to establishing a defined compensation plan to ensure top talent is recruited and retained. They also work to ensure the accurate reporting of job classifications and organizational design. The Compensation and Classification Team supports the university’s vision of being a leading research-extensive university to help solve the state’s economic, environmental, and social challenges.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the Compensation Consultants with the collection, analysis, data quality, and integrity of HCM information and records from Workday and historical platforms.
  • Prepare, dissect, and disseminate reporting/metrics from Workday.
  • Partner with Compensation Consultants with the creation of materials to articulate to campus partners procedures and methodologies related to compensation, classification, and organizational design.
  • Assist with job pricing and entering data using the Payfactors salary platform, researching comparable position data via Workday, Payfactors, and Peer Institutions.
  • Research best practices from peer institutions; recommend ways to improve function.
  • Support branding efforts by developing and updating content and maintaining a library of compensation/classification materials.
  • Gain an understanding of job functions, team structures, and culture within the LSU Office of Human Resource Management.
  • Participate in staff meetings and committees as requested.
  • Perform other tasks as needed on established projects or short-term activities.

Qualifications

  • Be in good academic, financial, and conduct standing with the University.
  • Full-time enrollment in an LSU bachelor’s degree program including but not limited to concentrations in the following areas: Leadership and Human Resource Development, Psychology, Management, or Communications.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, written skills, and verbal skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.

Expectations

  • Must be able to complete the program for the Spring 2025 semester from January 21, 2024-May 16, 2025. (Does not include LSU holidays and breaks).
  • Must be able to attend an in-person welcome orientation in the spring semester.
  • Schedule will be determined by the supervisor and intern and will take place during LSU HRM hours: Monday through Friday-8:00 am-4:30 pm.
  • Will work between 12 – 20 hours per week.
  • Must attend intern professional development workshops.
