About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
Are you a writer, graphic designer, video editor, event planner, social media influencer, or interested in marketing and communications? The INSPD Communications Division is seeking a self-motivated individual eager to learn more about how effective communications ensure that a business or an organization accomplishes its goals. This opportunity is intended to:
- Introduce the intern to Communications employee engagement management skills
- Develop basic project management skills, and
- Provide an in-depth understanding of messaging HR programming and overall government work.
This position is in person at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour.
A Day in the Life:
Learning Objective 1: Improve writing, editing, and social media skills by managing the Governor’s Summer Intern program social media platforms and internal newsletter.
- Assist with planning, writing and posting content to GSI social media platforms.
- Editorial planning, writing content for and working with graphic designer for weekly GSI newsletter.
Learning Objective 2: Develop event management, networking, and project management skills by managing the Governor’s Summer Intern program after-work engagement opportunities and assist with work-hour engagement opportunities.
- Plan, coordinate and message external GSI engagement opportunities
- Assist with planning and executing of workday GSI engagement opportunities
Learning Objective 3: Support Communications team with project management, publications and employee engagement opportunities.
- Writing and editing for internal communications
- Assisting with all aspects of employee engagement, including planning, executing, setup and cleanup of activities.
What You'll Need for Success:
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
- Major in Graphic Design, English/Writing, Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, or a related area.
- Plan to pursue a career in Communications.
- Be an incoming freshman or older in college.
- Have the ability to quickly learn new software products.
- Have the ability to plan work using strong time management skills.
- Have the ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
- Adobe Creative Cloud experience preferred.
- Have the ability to create documents and presentations for various audiences via Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
