Location: Stephen F. Austin State Office Building, Austin, Texas Time Period: 10 months Part-time, 12-16 hours/week, 250 hours total minimum per semester Compensation: $24 per hour + optional three (3) semester hours credit through university (to be arranged by the student)

Classification: Paid and credit-based internship: $24 per hour for the semester and credit through college/university (to be arranged by the student).
General Job Description: An office of the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), TxGIO’s mission is to empower the geospatial community by providing data access, services, partnerships, and engagement. The intern hired will play a key role in TxGIO in the Design, Innovation, & Marketing department to assist with event planning, coordination, and marketing. Other assignments may be added to provide the intern with greater exposure to the important work performed by TxGIO teams.
Job Duties: The Event Planning and Marketing Intern will work on planning, coordination, and marketing efforts for TxGIO hosted events. Projects include leading planning and coordination for public Texas GIS Community meetings hosted quarterly by TxGIO, assisting with the planning and coordination of the 2025 Texas GIS Forum hosted annually by TxGIO, and additional event/marketing/communications work as needed. Work entails following project workplans, coordinating event logistics, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, managing event registration and details, and helping to execute on-site and post event activities to ensure smooth and successful events.
Hybrid work option: Remote work may be possible on an as needed basis but is not guaranteed. Additionally, remote work will be contingent upon multiple factors such as: current project needs, project deadlines, supervisor approval and the demonstrated ability by the intern to successfully accomplish project tasks from a remote environment. All
interns will be required to work in the TxGIO office at least one day a week (Monday or Tuesday preferred).
Qualifications: Applicants should either be enrolled at a recognized Texas college or university, or a recent graduate. Successful candidates will have a strong foundational understanding of event planning and experience coordinating projects and people.
Requirement: Completion of introductory hospitality, communications, marketing, public relations, or business courses are required. Current enrollment or completion of advanced hospitality or convention/meeting management related course(s) preferred.
Experience with social media, content creation, videography, graphic design, digital art creation, GIS software and related products, knowledge of spatial data and familiarity with the geography of Texas is a plus, but not required. This position requires great attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work well in a hybrid team setting as well as independently.
