Electric Transmission Engineer I

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an Electric Transmission Engineer I to support a variety of critical engineering projects related to our transmission systems!

This role offers the opportunity to make an impact in the following ways:

  • Working with stakeholders to update Loads & Resources tables and equipment ratings in source documents
  • Support with maintaining PSSE, PowerWorld, OpenNet, and other transmission models
  • Updating WECC Base Cases for MOD-010 NERC Compliance with the latest data
  • Supporting the long-term Electric Transmission System Plans
  • Performing next-day, weekly, short-, and long-term transmission power flow studies
  • Reviewing NERC Standards documentation to learn about and help maintain compliance with our transmission system
  • Participating in regional planning activities with external groups, including Colorado Coordinated Planning Group (CCPG), WestConnect, Western
  • Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), and Southwest Power Pool (SPP)
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to improve forecasting methodologies and understand potential new large customers with specialized loads (e.g., data centers)
  • Assisting with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and leading consultants to develop future studies

The following knowledge, skills, and expertise will lend to success in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required for this role
  • Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is valued
  • Relevant and progressively responsible engineering experience is valued, preferably with electric transmission systems
