Event Operations Intern
The Angeles District has an exciting opportunity for a summer internship within the Special Events Office! If you are interested in learning more about large event operations, logistics, permitting, and public safety and security, this is a great opportunity for you! The ideal candidate will be able to start early March 2025 and will finish their internship program mid-August. Start and end dates are flexible with the option to extend until November. Hours will vary week-to-week depending on workload, but candidates can expect 20-40 hours per week with the possibility for occasional overtime. Reporting location is Los Angeles State Historic Park.
Los Angeles State Historic Park is an outdoor event venue with a 25,000-person capacity; between May and October 2024, LASHP will host 4 large concerts and festivals, as well as many other smaller music, art, and entertainment events. The Event Operations Intern will work closely with the Special Event Operations Coordinator to successfully and safely facilitate these large-scale events. Candidates can expect to learn about facility and urban greenspace management as well as event logistics and life/safety/security best practices. Successful candidates in this role will be interested in urban parks, hospitality, and event management.
Duties Will Include:
Meeting with potential event managers to show them the venue, clearly explaining the guidelines and providing information about the park and its history.
Maintaining accurate financial records and processing payments.
Ensuring all supplemental event documents are corrected and received in a timely manner.
Meeting with stakeholders to address concerns and developing strong working relationships with key partners.
Utilizing interpretive enforcement to communicate the rules and regulations of the park to the public.
Managing potential public safety concerns related to resources and resource protection.
Helping to ensure all park facilities are neat, clean, and in working order to the standards set forth in the permit.
Monitoring event load-ins and strikes, making sure event production abides by their operations plan and documenting damage and other issues as they arise.
Assisting Special Events Operations Coordinator with resolving issues in-the-moment by providing ideas and solutions.
Requirements:
The ability to drive a state vehicle is required, and the incumbent may, under supervision, utilize power tools.
The ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays is required. This position frequently works long hours (12-14-hour days). Overtime eligible.
Compensation:
Starting pay is $16.87/hour. Overtime is paid after 40 hours worked per week (Sunday – Saturday).
