SCA Internship - Richmond National Battlefield Resource Management
Position Summary
At Richmond National Battlefield Park the park's resource management goal is to create a native species rich environment, and minimize the invasive threat to nearby undisturbed areas, while restoring important cultural landscapes to their historic conditions. This internship will provide experience working on a variety of resource management projects along side experienced NPS staff. Interns will work with staff in the Resource Management Division in historic earthwork monitoring and preservation, trail monitoring and maintenance, management of invasive exotic vegetation, animal monitoring, and GIS/GPS work.
Schedule
February 3, 2025 - May 23, 2025
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Duties will be prioritized as follows:
- 30% Historic earthwork monitoring and preservation
- 30% Managing invasive exotic vegetation
- 20% Trail monitoring and maintenance
Marginal Duties
- 15% Animal monitoring
- 5% GIS/GPS surveying
Required Qualifications
- Valid drivers license
- Personal vehicle
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or education in biology, invasive species work, or GIS data collection is preferred but not mandatory.

Living Accommodations
Housing is provided on NPS property in a shared house with private rooms.
Compensation
- Weekly living allowance: $300 / week*
- One-time travel allowance: $1,100*
- Housing is provided by the park
- Eligible to receive Public Land Corps(PLC) hiring authority upon successful completion of the program if you are between the ages of 18-30 (35 for veterans)
- Eligible for an AmeriCorps education award valued at $1,956.35 *
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
