Structural (Bridge) Engineering Intern - Summer 2025
We currently seek a Structural/Bridge Engineering Intern to join the Infrastructure Business Unit in our Tampa, FL office.
The Structural/Bridge Engineering Intern will collaborate with and be mentored by top Engineering associates on our team. This intern will work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer and support the technical design of transportation-related structures, plan production, and quantities development. Our newcomers will work on a variety of projects and structures such as bridges, retaining walls, temporary walls, toll gantries, sign structures, and signal mast arms. This is an amazing opportunity to gain hands-on experience in structures and a better understanding of the growing Transportation Engineering industry.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team to assist with the design of structural components for roadways, intersections, and interchanges, to include bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and sign structures
Prepare plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates
Gather and provide data for the preparation of engineering reports and studies
Perform and review design calculations
Qualifications:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or other related specialization from an accredited ABET-university
Must reside and/or attend an institution (physical or online) near the aforementioned eligible internship locations (Tampa, FL)
Undergraduate or Graduate student with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as an intermediate level of technical writing and communication skills
Basic CAD experience (AutoCAD, Microstation, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
2.5 GPA or above
Experience modeling in 3D utilizing Bentley OpenBridge
Experience or coursework pertaining to the design of concrete or steel structures
Experience or exposure to Florida Departments of Transportation (FDOT) and/or Tollway plan preparation and design standards
