
Autistic Support Teacher - Secondary

Summary:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for working with students at the high school level with disabilities and provide specialized instruction to meet their unique needs. This teacher is to assess the student’s IEP and use teaching techniques to meet these goals.
Reporting Relationships:
- Works jointly with the building staff.
- Works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff, students, and the community to perform job responsibilities as outlined.
- Reports directly to the Building Principal.
Terms of Employment:
- Salary and Benefits are as described in the current Agreement.
- Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth by the Board of Directors and the Agreement.
Qualifications:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Special Education.
- At least 1 year of experience working with children.
- Proficient with Microsoft based PCs and operating systems preferred.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
- Meet requirements set forth by the State of Pennsylvania and the Board of School Directors for employment.
Physical and Ability Requirements:
- Ability to reach above and below the waist.
- Ability to use fingers and hands to pick, feel and grasp objects.
- Ability to reach, pull, and use repetitive motions.
- Some stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting of the body required.
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 50 pounds.

- Visual and auditory acuity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
- Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Develop and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
- Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP.
- Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources.
- Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom.
- Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers regarding the needs of students.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Attend school meetings as required.
- Participates in training sessions and workshops to develop and maintain knowledge and skills.
- Maintains confidentially about students in accordance with district guidelines.
- Maintains a positive demeanor at all time including, but not limited to, use of appropriate language.
- Demonstrates openness to suggestions for improving performance.
- Maintains an appropriate record of punctuality and attendance.
- Demonstrates initiative, independence and decision making appropriate to the performance tasks of this position.
- Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
- Any other duties related to computers as assigned by the Building Principal.
