Staking Engineer
Job Summary:
FOCUS Broadband is seeking a Staking Engineer to join our team at our Shallotte Headquarters. This position will be responsible for planning, designing, and preparing staking sheets and drawings for existing, new, and future service areas. The Staking Engineer will independently issue work orders, including distribution and cut sheets, and coordinate necessary permits for the construction department. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with multiple departments as FOCUS Broadband expands its footprint across North Carolina.
Requirements:
- Prepares work orders to include engineering staking design, cost estimates, staking sheets, material requirements, distributions, and recommendations, locate requirements, subscriber data changes, and all necessary permits or encroachments.
- Visit field locations to stake for new construction and for replacement and rearrangement of existing outside plant, including obtaining right-of-way permits, private party easements for work order construction, and obtaining sites for new or relocated facilities.
- Secure understandable field notes for the preparation of staking sheets.
- Prepares and assists in all transition phases between existing and newly constructed plant facilities.
- Assigns a number to outside plant work orders and delivers completed staking sheets to construction when ready for construction.
- Maintains power company pole attachment and detachment counts.
- Use various FOCUS Broadband systems, Microsoft programs, and mapping software to prepare drawings and layouts for engineering, commercial, and office projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum two-year associate’s degree in an Engineering discipline or 4 years of Engineering work experience. (External Only)
- Knowledge of computer-aided drafting, GIS mapping software, data collection, principles, and practices.
- Ability to utilize CableCAD, NetDesigner, ArcMap ESRI GIS, LodeData, Visio, XMAP, and other design, drafting, or mapping software.
- Knowledge of twisted-pair copper and fiber telecommunication systems, including fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and hybrid-fiber coax (HFC) CATV systems construction, engineering practices and principles, and their respective outside plant network designs.
- Maintains a current and valid driver’s license to perform the duties of this position.
