Teacher
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Responsible for developing and implementing Independent Living Skills curriculum for members and maintaining accurate records of their progress. Participate with members during recreational, educational, and vocational programming & activities. Ensure a safe and supportive environment through counseling, crisis management, & supervision of members. Provide teaching support to youth residing at Shelter program.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three years’ experience working with people with disabilities, BA/BS degree in special education, psychology, social work, or related field required. Teacher’s certification. Experience in providing employment support preferable.
SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
· Ability to maintain appropriate relationships with people with disabilities and at-risk adolescents utilizing normalization principles
· Ability to interact effectively with all levels of CAU staff, members’ families, and within the community.
· Ability to express oneself, both in writing and verbally, in a professional and comprehensive manner
· Excellent planning, organization and time management skills with pro-active approach.
· Working knowledge of computer office software programs including Microsoft Office
· Ability to deliver effective presentations and training programs to members, staff and outside consumers.
· Ability to be resourceful and work independently with in agency guidelines to meet deadlines.
· Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and calculations.
· Ability to accommodate last minute scheduling needs to ensure the safety of the program.
· Ability to professionally and resourcefully resolve issues regarding community-based resources.
· Legally registered/insured automobile, valid driver’s license, and safe driving record required at all times.
SHIFT
Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm and all year-round work
