Elementary Teacher (Pre-Kindergarten / Kindergarten)
POSITION: ELEMENTARY TEACHER (PRE-KINDERGARTEN / Kindergarten)
CONTRACT: 188 days, beginning August 2025
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Valid Alaska teaching certificate or program enrollment.
Preferred: Early Childhood teaching certificate (prek-3rd) or endorsement
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To prepare preschool students to succeed by addressing the cultural, social/emotional, motor, cognitive, and language/literacy development of early childhood students.
SALARY: Depending on experience / negotiated salary schedule
DUTIES: Under the supervision of the site principal, responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- School Readiness: Structure, organize, and implement preschool activities for maximum student learning benefit; adhere to the Alaska Early Learning Guidelines; utilize adopted curriculum, activities, and units; write daily lesson plans, implement local Alaska Native cultural activities, dramatic play, units, language instruction and literature monthly.
- Students in Need: Implement whole-group, small group and individualized learning strategies; adhere to student IEPs as needed; communicate and work collaborative on home strategies.
- Behavioral Support: Utilizes Trauma Informed Practices, Social Emotional Learning, and Self-Regulation in order to support positive behavior.
- Family Engagement: builds strong home-school collaboration through the use of family individual learning plans (FILPs), family kit checkout, monthly family events, and conferences.
- Assessment: implements fall and spring screening; maintains formative assessment student portfolio.
- Professional Development: Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Participates in a professional development plan (i.e. self-assessments, inservices, meetings with team members/District Coordinator, independent learning, coaching, professional learning community, etc.) to aid in teacher growth and children’s development.
- Reports: Maintains accurate, complete and updated records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation. Submit reports and documents (i.e. gather data on - children’s learning to inform teaching practice, curriculum usage, parent engagement, self-assessments etc.) to the principal and/or Early Learning District Coordinator.

- Able to meet deadlines and follow instructions
- Strong interpersonal skills, including collegiality, collaboration and communication.
- Knowledge & experience with differentiated instruction and intervention
- Positive, energetic, flexible, organized and efficient
- Knowledge of social emotional learning and positive guidance strategies for classroom management.
