Technical Intern for Distribution Operations

PSEG Long Island is looking for an Intern for the Western Suffolk Distribution Operations Team

This job involves working as a(n) Technical Intern for Distribution Operations

This position will be Onsite at the Brentwood, NY location

Job Responsibilities

 

Assignments will include working alongside professionals in the following areas:

  • Technology Utilization: Familiarize yourself with the control center's technology infrastructure, including SCADA systems, energy management systems, and other relevant tools. Provide support in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with experienced control center operators and engineers to gain insights into grid operations, system planning, and maintenance activities.
  • Continuous Learning: Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance your understanding of electric utility operations, grid management, and industry best practices.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in emergency response exercises and actual events. Learn and apply protocols for managing and mitigating incidents, ensuring the safety and reliability of the electrical system.

Job Specific Qualifications

 

Required education/skills:

The successful candidate(s) must be actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering and graduating between December 2025 and May 2027. Students graduating in May/June 2025 are not eligible unless they are enrolling in a post-graduate degree program in the fall term of 2025. PSEG recognizes institutions of higher education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. Candidates must have completed sophomore level course work for consideration.

Because this position will require traveling to various PSEG locations, a valid driver's license and a safe driving record is required.


Preferred:

  • 3.0 GPA
  • Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering majors

All PSEG internship roles are paid at an hourly rate, however there are no medical benefits associated with these positions. Candidates are expected to work 40 hours per week over the duration of the summer internship. We are targeting currently enrolled/matriculating students that are able to commute to their designated work location as needed. Housing, transportation, and immigration support will not be provided in association with these positions.
