Geology Intern
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Geology Intern to support our exploration team in conducting a sampling project. The intern will assist in fieldwork, mapping, sample collection, and data analysis to advance our understanding of the geological and structural controls of gold mineralization at Jerritt Canyon. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in geoscience fieldwork and lab techniques, working closely with experienced geologists and other industry professionals.
Responsibilities
1. Fieldwork and Sample Collection:
o Assist in planning and conducting field sampling activities.
o Collect rock, soil, or sediment samples according to established protocols.
o Record field observations, sample locations, and relevant environmental data using GPS and field notebooks.
o Ensure proper handling, labeling, and transportation of samples to maintain data integrity.
2. Data Management and Analysis:
o Organize and catalog samples and field data for analysis.
o Conduct basic laboratory tests (e.g., grain size analysis, mineral identification) under supervision.
o Assist in compiling and analyzing field and lab data using software tools such as GIS, Excel, or other geological software.
3. Collaboration and Reporting:
o Work collaboratively with team members to ensure project objectives are met.
o Prepare reports, maps, and visualizations summarizing findings.
o Present results to the team and provide input on potential areas for further investigation.
4. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
o Follow safety protocols and ensure adherence to environmental regulations during field and lab work.
o Must provide own steel-toed or composite work boots; other required PPE will be provided.
o Maintain cleanliness and organization of field and lab equipment.
o Pre-employment drug, alcohol, and fitness testing required, and subject to random drug and alcohol testing during employment.
o Ability to get MSHA Surface New Miner 5000-23 training and certification.
Education and Experience
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of geological sampling methods and field equipment.
• Familiarity with GIS software, data management tools, or lab techniques is a plus.
• Strong observational, organizational, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to field sites and work in various environmental conditions.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Experience in fieldwork or geological research projects.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic data analysis.
• Knowledge of local geology or experience with the project-specific focus area.
Work Environment
This position involves both office and field work, with exposure to outdoor conditions that may include varying weather, terrain, and physical demands. The intern will gain practical experience in geosciences while contributing to a meaningful project with real-world applications.
Duration
• Project Duration: Approximately 3 months, start in May or June and conclude project in August.
