Knowledge Management Development Fellow

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY 

EdTrust-West seeks a Knowledge Management Development Fellow as part of its 8th cohort of Russlynn Ali Summer Fellows. The Russlynn Ali Fellowship, named in honor of the founding executive director of EdTrust-West, is a career development opportunity for college students and recent graduates. It sets the foundation for current and future educators, policymakers, researchers, and advocates to be lifelong leaders within California’s education ecosystem.  

The Knowledge Management Development Fellow will work to increase organizational capacity and further equitable access to institutional knowledge through the advancement of two core projects: (1) the development and implementation of a plan to restructure the EdTrust shared drive (SharePoint), and (2) the development and implementation of functional and positional manuals including the creation of standard document templates and tangible examples. The Fellow will learn about how to best manage and preserve institutional knowledge within nonprofits and lay the foundation for EdTrust-West’s future knowledge management practices.

This role is based remotely and full-time (37.5 hours/week) from June 16th through August 22nd, 2025. Earlier start/end dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis to be determined by students' and academic faculty’s school schedules. Fellows must reside in CA and report to EdTrust-West's Oakland, CA office on June 17th for mandatory in-person welcome programming and employment verification and August 19th for mandatory end-of-term programming. The Fellow reports to the Operations Associate will serve as a member of the People & Operations team.   

  

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The responsibilities and objectives for this role include, but are not limited to, the following: 

Develop Organizational Shared Drive Restructuring Plan:  

  • Create a project concept document and setup project management infrastructure 
  • Research industry best practices for nonprofit knowledge management  
    Develop project proposal documents including “Shared Drive and Knowlege Management Best Practices" resource, shared drive structure, and implementation plan 
  • Utilizing the proposed methods, restructure Operations-managed portions of SharePoint to serve as tangible example  

 

Develop standard Functional and Positional Manuals: 

  • Create a project concept document and setup project management infrastructure   
  • Research current organizational practices and industry best practices for manual development  
  • Utilizing practices congruent with organizational values, revise the Operations Manual and Operations Associate manual which will serve as standard document templates and tangible examples 
  • Develop project proposal documents which include best methods for implementing and standardizing related documentation across the organization

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE  

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience: 

  • Enrolled in a higher education degree program; or a recent graduate within one year of graduation  
  • Familiarity with organizational development, business operations, or nonprofit operations through education, employment, or volunteer experience   
  • Familiarity with or proficiency in web-based content and knowledge management tools (SharePoint, Google Drive, Salesforce, Notion, etc.) 
  • Project management experience including familiarity with project management software; experience with Asana preferred 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and the Microsoft 365 Suite preferred 

 

 

 

COMPENSATION  

The pay for this position is $26 per hour for 37.5 hours/week. Sick leave is accrued in this role.
