Design Engineer Intern
PVT Clean Energy (www.pvtce.com) is a rapidly growing startup company with a mission of decarbonizing construction materials and accelerating the deployment of renewable energies in
the building industry.
We have an opening for a design engineer intern with a Civil/Mechanical Engineering background to join our dynamic team. This position is an excellent opportunity for master’s students in their final semester or recent graduates and is open to both citizens and non-citizens with a valid work authorization status (CPT/OPT). The work is going to be hybrid with design aspects done remotely, and occasional visits to the job site in NY State for assembly and testing.
Intern Job Responsibilities
This project is to design an advanced greenhouse that runs on solar and geothermal energy. This design integrates the dual synergetic benefits of improved energy harvesting methods while targeting future zero-energy, zero-emission agriculture. The role will involve implementing the following activities:
• HVAC Design: Design of energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and cooling systems, cooling/heating load calculations, and shop drawing review
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Simulation and optimization of mechanical systems.
• Finite Volume Method (FVM): Computational techniques for fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
• 3D CAD Design: Creating detailed models for prototyping and production.
• Sensor Integration: Advanced sensing technologies for energy management and data collection.
• Presentations and Reports: Performing field measurements and preparing reports
Intern Qualifications/Skills
• Master's Degree or equivalent degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or a relevant field
• Robust working knowledge of mechanical systems design
• Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks
• Programming proficiency with MATLAB or comparable language
• MS Office Suite Products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Being familiar with FEA software such as ANSYS is a plus
• Prior experience in design and 3D printing is highly encouraged
• Ability to work independently and handle confidential documents
• Valid work authorization or permit to work legally in the United States
