Job Summary:
The Forest Ecosystems and Society invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate: Data Manager and Analyst position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
The individual in this position will lead data management within our large, trans-disciplinary research initiative and improve access to the currently available data. They will improve protocols for data organization and management, implement consistent data quality control procedures, facilitate collaboration, ensure best practices, improve data sharing and accessibility to increase efficiencies, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the increasing amount of data we are generating in the Wildfire and Water Security Project. They will also lead and be involved in scholarly activities, including data analysis, publishing manuscripts in peer review journals, and presenting research results at scientific meetings and workshops.

Key Responsibilities
Data Management (60%)
• Develop and implement protocols for data organization and management to ensure long-term utility of data.
• Develop scripts or coding workflows that facilitate access to datasets stored on a project GitHub or similar platform.
• Automate workflows for data processing, QA/QC, and formatting to ensure data is usable.
• Ensure consistent data quality control procedures are in place and followed.
• Provide training and support to team members on data management best practices.
• Facilitate collaboration among team members to enhance data sharing and accessibility.
• Improve data sharing practices to increase efficiencies within the project.
• Oversee the integration of new data sources into existing databases.
• Monitor and evaluate data management processes to identify areas for improvement.
Scholarly Activities (30%)
• Conduct data analysis to support research objectives.
• Lead the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at scientific meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Collaborate with researchers to design and implement data-driven studies.
• Stay current with advancements in data management and analysis techniques.
• Contribute to the development of grant proposals and funding applications.
Project Administration Duties (10%)
• Coordinate project meetings and ensure effective communication among team members.
• Assist in the preparation of project reports and documentation.
• Manage project timelines and ensure milestones are met.
• Support the development and implementation of project policies and procedures.
• Liaise with external partners and stakeholders to facilitate project activities.
What You Will Need
• Must possess a PhD degree in data science, environmental science, water resources science, or a related degree from an accredited university by the start date of the position.
• Demonstrated potential for data management, including data organization, quality control, data security, and data sharing.
• Evidence of effective research in wildfire, geochemistry (e.g., DOC , DOM character), and hydrology and related data outputs (e.g., EEMs) and analyses (e.g., PARAFAC ).
• Demonstrated potential for writing code (e.g., R packages) or developing proficiency with data management tools (e.g., GitHub) to automate processes and facilitate more efficient data analysis and data QA/QC
• Evidence of effective use of geographic information systems (GIS ), spatial data analysis, and spatial stream network (SSN ) models.
• Evidence of effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) enabling collaboration on a trans-disciplinary research team.

• Demonstrated experience with working on large-scale, trans-disciplinary research projects and teams with diverse knowledge approaches and perspectives.
• Demonstrated experience with field, laboratory, and modeling-based research.
• Proficiency in advanced data analysis techniques and statistical software.
• Demonstrated potential to successfully write grant proposals and secure research funding.
• Experience in leading or managing a team in an equitable and inclusive manner.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
The proposed research will occur in an office setting, with occasional occurrences of field work and laboratory work.
