Food Assortment Buying Intern
Summary
Lidl US is searching for the next Intern to join our Buying-Food Assortment team! The Buying Intern will work on a variety of tasks and assignments as it relates to Lidl US in-store assortment. This includes selection of items, pricing, and quality. The Intern will be provided with an opportunity to receive hands-on training in key promotional buying and planning principles while working closely with Purchasing leadership. The culmination of the Internship will require a presentation to leadership on a strategic initiative.
*** This position reports to our Headquarters in Arlington, VA on a hybrid 3-day schedule. ***
What You’ll Do
Essential Functions
- Gather, track, and analyze important market information for several categories of food assortment
- Support Senior Category Manager in optimizing current food assortments within the business
- Assist in improving data quality and present findings that will be the base for assortment decisions
- Assist in Lidl US Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Goods-in Margin, Sales Units, and Customer Turnover
- Conduct market analysis online and offline
- Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or in a team within an open office environment
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Must be a self-motivated individual
- Retail background preferred but not required
- Ability to commit to a full time work schedule (40 hours per week)
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or similar field from an accredited University
- Must be a rising Junior or Senior with a 3.0 or higher grade point average
Physical Job Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods of time between in-office desk work and in-field assignments
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
