Wellness Coach

What is the Wellness Coach experience?  

When you join Walker’s Wellness Coach Program (WCP), you serve alongside Walker’s team and your Wellness Coach cohort to gain valuable early career experience supporting students with emotional and behavioral health challenges so they can thrive in Boston’s public schools and after school programs. This service position allows you to develop your skills, earn a living stipend/education award, and support students with interpersonal skills, emotional regulation, executive functioning ultimately helping to provide all youth with a positive and supportive environment to thrive.  

What skills will you learn?  

As a Wellness Coach you begin your service year in August with three weeks of immersive college level coursework to develop a strong foundational knowledge in child and adolescent development and behavioral health. You will learn evidence-based behavioral health supports, social emotional skill-building interventions, and case management approaches. This robust training will boost your confidence and skills to provide one-on-one/group youth support in classrooms and beyond. 

How will you apply your skills?  

Starting in September you will be matched with an in-person service location (Boston Public School or Boston-based after-school program), where you will spend 15-18 hours/week supporting youth facing emotional and behavioral health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, and unhealthy eating, sleeping, and screen time patterns. As a Wellness Coach you will be supported by your site-based licensed clinical supervisor, and a Walker supervisor. You will continue to learn from your peers and supervisors in monthly-seminars and weekly supervision meetings.  

Site-placement schedule:  

Typical service hours align with school or after-school schedules, with school placements generally running from 8 AM to 3 PM and after-school placements from 3 PM to 6 PM. Some flexibility may be required based on site needs.

Additionally, you will receive:  

  • Living Stipend: Up to $14,000 
  • Public Transportation Stipend: T-pass provided

  • Mentorship & Supervision: from licensed mental health clinicians 

Qualifications:  

  • High school Diploma/ GED equivalent 
  • Be 18 years old or older at start of service  
  • Able to pass a National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) and FBI (Criminal Offender Record Information) background check and fingerprinting 
  • Reliable means of transportation to attend service site and trainings 
  • Able to commit up to 20 hours per week starting on August 11, 2025, upon successful completion of background screening 
  • Able to commit to an 11-month school calendar year service period 

Essential roles and responsibilities:  

  • Facilitate 1:1 and group coaching for behavioral health and wellness promotion 
  • Support school staff during regular school hours and after-school settings 
  • Meet all the required orientation, training, and service hours to earn a Wellness Coach Certification and the Segal AmeriCorps Educational Award 
  • Attend weekly meetings with clinical supervisor and on-site coordinator 
  • Attend monthly group seminars 
  • Enter and collect notes in a timely and accurate manner 
  • Uphold professional standards and boundaries 

Skills and experience: 

  • Proficiency in the use of computer systems for information management 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply (but not required) 
  • Have experience working with youth 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Reliable, adaptable and a team player
