Job Summary:
The University of San Francisco is searching for a staff member to join the School of Nursing and Health Professions as the Director of Applied Practice (DAP) for public health programs including a bachelor of science in public health (BSPH) and a master in public health (MPH). The DAP oversees all aspects of the Applied Practice Experience (APEX) and internships for students in the public health programs. The DAP acts as a liaison between the academic program administration and faculty, placement sites, preceptors and students.

Overall, the DAP plays an important role in guiding the internship component of SONHP's public health programs and in exploring procedures and options to provide rigorous and high-quality applied practice for all public health students. The DAP works in close cooperation with the Program Director and faculty in attaining these goals.

Full Job Description:

• Champions training of BSPH and MPH students through applied practice, internship, and experiential activities

• Updates and maintains shared internship documentation and tools and related Canvas portal for all APEX instructors and Program leadership and staff

• Oversees coordination of program staff with Clinical Placement Coordinators for the administrative and contractual aspects of internship placements

• Collaborates with internship instructors and preceptors

• Oversees the guidance of all BSPH and MPH students through internship search processes, site selection, application review, interview and offer activities

• Manages and updates a database of internship placement sites and contacts and, with support from Program staff, shares that information with students

• Oversees and verifies students' internship eligibility and readiness and regularly corresponds with agencies about placements and experiences

• Reviews internship evaluations and monitors student learning outcomes and progress throughout placements and annually

• Consults with and guides all students who are encountering issues related to their internship experience and, together with the internship instructor, engages in remediation planning for students related to internship training

• Manages the flow of information regarding students' progress in internship training, as well as problems, to academic program leadership, faculty, and internship sites and preceptors

• In collaboration with the Program Director and program staff, manages the proper storage and/or dissemination of internship data in accordance with ongoing program evaluation and accreditation standards

• Support writing the annual and accreditation self-study reports and coordinates the periodic and ongoing evaluation of all applied training related aspects of the program, which includes but is not limited to interprofessional experience, in accordance with the standards of accreditation

• Makes contacts with university and non-university agencies (local, state, regional, federal) for research and training experiences and for funding arrangements that may support APEX; helps foster interagency contacts for internship experiences

• Serves as primary contact for precepting organizations, surveying preceptors to assess their ongoing interests, collecting feedback, and inquiring about their priority concerns and needs

• Consults on the development of new initiatives and projects

• Annually reviews and updates the Student Handbook, Faculty Guide, Preceptor Guide, and all other internship training materials for both BSPH and MPH programs

• In partnership with the Program Directors and Associate Dean for Health Professions, responds to research questionnaires and communiques regarding various internship issues received from accreditors

• Attends meetings of accreditors, professional organizations and training consortiums/collaboratives related to public health education and applied practice.

• Adheres to all confidentiality requirements

• Acts in a way that embodies the mission, vision and values of the Program, the School of Nursing and Health Professions, and the University of San Francisco

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean

• Computer proficiency - Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems, and electronic communication methods (e.g., Zoom)

Position Qualifications:

• 2 -3 years of professional experience

• Ability to travel for Program events or meetings and for professional conferences

• Expertise across public health education and training

• Ability to develop and sustain relationships with professional organizations

• Minimum degree requirement: MPH, MSPH, or equivalent

Salary Range :
$100,000-$110,000 annualized; commensurate with experience.
