ENGINEERING SPECIALIST, SENIOR
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for coordinating a variety of water utility drawings and related projects. Reports to Engineer Supervisor. There are three (3) levels of Engineering Specialist distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs technical work and project management for water utility projects to conform to design specifications, site specific issues, and established accounting practices; prepares engineering drawings, maps and sketches using computer aided drafting, standard drafting and GIS tools; may maintain the record drawing inventory within a database for accuracy and easy accessibility; assists with preparing engineering agreements, construction contracts, specifications, technical reports and design specifications as well as proposals, contract bid documents, and change orders as required.
Coordinates technical work with City, State, and Federal agencies, consultants, and contractors. Reviews site plans to identify potential conflicts; designs resolutions and creates Memorandum of Understandings to resolve.
Conducts onsite meetings with citizens, outside agencies, contractors, or City personnel. Responds to and works to resolve a wide variety of customer complaints. Completes Council packages work orders, status reports and other related tracking documentation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Engineering Specialist I - Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Engineering Specialist II - Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Engineering Specialist, Senior - Requires a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of seven years of related experience, including considerable experience directly with water utilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work.
• Some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
• Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10-20 pounds).
