Aircraft Tire Test Technician

Michelin Aircraft Tire Test Technician

At Michelin's Charlotte Testing Facility, we are a small team of ten (10) technicians, engineers, and maintainers who test Michelin's aviation tires on a dynamometer to verify the safety and quality of our aircraft tires. The Test Technicians are responsible for working with our engineers to understand and properly execute tests to OE or FAA standards.

Position location:
Charlotte, NC in Research Park near UNCC.

Position pay:
During training, $22.28/hour. Training is done on the job (OJT) and highly dependent on the trainee's motivation level, but usually takes between a year to 18 months. After completion of training, pay increases to $28.35 hour.

Position hours:
Rotating A shift (0700-1500) and B shift (1445-1045) weekly. Operations are Monday through Friday. 40 hours a week + occasional overtime paid at time and a half.

Benefits
Michelin offers a full benefits package, with Healthcare, Dental, Vision, 401k, and much more to support each employee and their family.

Skills required for the position:
- Being Teachable (This position has technical aspects, but each and every one of those can be taught if the candidate is willing to grow and learn),
- Teamwork and Communication (as Test Technicians work with other Technicians, Maintenance, and Engineers regularly),
- Attention to Detail (as Technicians must often inspect tires and check other Technicians work)
- Time Management (Test Technicians structure their day based on the variety of tests they have, and it is useful to be able to structure that day efficiently).
- Proficiency with High School Mathematics (This job will require measurements and calculations that are relatively simple for a high school student, but it is good that you are comfortable doing them regularly).
- Handling 40 to 80 lbs as tires are moved or set up (Aviation Tires can be very large, so sometimes handling the samples can be cumbersome. We have hoists and lifts to help, but undeniably, this position gets physical sometimes).
- Comfortable with computers and able to use MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. (We don't need computer wizards, just someone who can handle the basics and find their way around. If you can do that, we can teach you the rest).

Our goal is to meet the highest quality standards in our laboratory testing of these tires. You will be an essential part of making that happen!
