The role:

Bring your accounting skills to our team in Salem! As a cash receipts technician, you will ensure that all revenue collected by Financial Services is deposited, classified and recorded into the accounting system and reconciled to the cash receipts journal. You will also review reports and amounts reconciled to ensure they match the receipts posted in the Oregon State Treasury and correct errors. Apply today!

A day in the life:

  • Process cash receipts in a timely manner and ensure that all cash and checks received are deposited and reconciled.
  • Review source documents for accuracy, completeness, consistency and propriety.
  • Research and communicate with accounting, field staff and external customers to obtain missing information and clarify rules to properly classify transactions.
  • Monitor and update information to ensure receipts are accurately classified and recorded properly according to policies and procedures.
  • Review daily treasury statements.
  • Examine the Statewide Financial Management Application (SFMA) receipts holding account balance monthly.
  • Explain and communicate accounting policies, procedures and practices.
  • Record local government investment pool draws.
  • Monitor deposit slip inventory, distribute deposit slips to field offices and maintain the distribution log.

Minimum qualifications:

Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits.

OR

One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2.

OR

At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.

Note: Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
