Job Title: Accounting Intern Summer 2025
Location: Dublin, OH (On-site)
Duration: May-August 2025 (3 months); 325 Hrs Requirement
Position Overview
As an Accounting Intern, you will support the Accounting Manager in enhancing and refining processes related to client management, forecasting, expense management, and month-end reporting. This internship offers hands-on experience with various accounting software systems. Your contributions will directly support Sycamore's goal of rapid growth through careful planning and execution rather than the chaos that happens when growth lacks careful thought and effort.
Pay: $25/Hr
Position Expectations
The intern will be responsible for refining and maintaining accounting operations, which include:
- Gain an understanding of the multiple accounting software systems
- Developing and documenting various accounting processes, both conceptually and in a step-by-step format
- Assist in month-end and quarter-end close activities
- Maintaining and improving processes in QuickBooks
- Aid in client account management
- Provide management with company insight through a financial lens
This role requires administrative execution and the development of templates and instructional guides for each process. We currently have some rough drafts of these workflows; your task will be to refine them into a polished version 2.0.
Success: By the end of the internship, success will be defined as the following: having clearly documented instructions for all accounting processes, creating reusable templates, documenting the accounting workflow, and contributing to the forecasting spreadsheet to enhance the overall process. This work will establish a comprehensive system for future full-time hires to maintain and expand upon.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Administrative & Development
- Identify and implement improvements in accounting workflows and processes
- Identify improvements in forecasting cashflow
Accounting Communication Plan
- Create workflow process for newly engaged clients
Accounting Process Development
- Develop and document workflows for month-end close
- Create a dynamic expense reimbursement form and process
- Create deferred revenue document and process
- Create a management reporting package
Accounting Support
- Assist in populating QuickBooks and our forecast with newly engaged clients
- Support the accounting manager in preparing ad hoc reports
- Create client invoices and account statements
- Maintain and update QuickBooks, ensuring data accuracy and completeness
- Assist in AR collection
- Processing monthly expense reports
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations accurately/timely
- Prepare monthly financial statements for review
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time summer position with a 325-hour requirement. In May and June, you will be in the office five days a week. In July, you will be in the office three days a week, with lunch provided each day. From August until the end of the internship, you will be in the office five days a week.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in Accounting or Finance field
- Basic understanding of financial and accounting principles
- Minimum GPA of 3.2
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experienced in Microsoft Office suite
- Analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
- Enjoys the challenge of creating order and processes to make the work easier and better quality.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
