The Position
The Mayor's Office is seeking a Research and Policy Support Intern to join the team!
Job Appointment: Casual, Part-Time
Internship Duration: 3 months
Available Internship:
• June 2025 to August 2025
• September 2025 to November 2025
Work Schedule: Flexible part-time hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. May occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Work Location: This internship requires you to report to City Hall (1221 SW 4th Ave, Portland, OR 97204) on the days you are scheduled to work.
Benefits: These positions are not eligible for benefits.

Note: These are casual Community Service Aide (CSA II) positions with a maximum of 1,400 hours in a calendar year.
Position SummaryThe Mayor's Office is looking for an organized, self-directed assistants to support its team with tasks related to:
• Research/Policy & Economic Analysis
• Council & Committee Tracking
• Various administrative tasks
The Research and Policy Support Intern will:
• Support with researching and drafting policy briefs or memos that summarize research findings, provide policy recommendations, and suggest possible actions or solutions for pressing issues.
• Maintain records of constituent issues or requests, ensuring they are addressed in a timely manner.
• Handle general inquiries and respond to constituent concerns or requests.
• Communicate with city council staff to clarify issues, gather insights, and discuss how the Mayor's office should respond to certain legislative proposals.
• Assist with other tasks assigned.
The Research and Policy Support Intern, with guidance and under supervision, will develop and gain:
• Conducting and summarizing Policy Research and Economic Analysis.
• Support with Council & Committee Tracking.
• Familiarity with public engagement to understand how to effectively engage with the public and represent an organization
About the Mayor's Office
Keith Wilson serves as Portland's first mayor in a new form of government. Born and raised in North Portland, this longtime business owner is focused on ending unsheltered homelessness and making Portland a great place to live, work and visit. He was elected as Mayor in November 2024 and began his term of office in January 2025.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
• Ability to learn to conduct thorough research on complex policy issues, analyze data, and synthesize findings into actionable insights or recommendations.
• Ability to summarize complex research findings in clear, concise, and accessible language for both internal stakeholders and the public.
• Ability to work independently on project-focused goals.
• Ability to build and maintain relationship with different stakeholders.
Additional Qualifications:
• Must be a student enrolled in a trade school, training program, college or university undergraduate or graduate program.

Step 2: Minimum Qualification Evaluation: Week of May 5. 2025

Step 5: Offer of Employment: TBDStep 6: Start Date: June 2025 (Summer Internship) / September 2025 (Fall Internship)
