Virtual Field Trips Graduate Student Intern

The Digital Learning Initiative (DLI) under Stanford’s Accelerator for Learning seeks an intern to help design digital learning experiences that incorporate virtual field trips (VFTs). This project focuses primarily, though not exclusively, on how VFTs can enhance learning in science domains. Target learners range from elementary school through higher education.

The goal of DLI is to ensure that all learners have access to rich digital experiences that empower knowledge, growth, connection, and opportunity. We seek to ignite discoveries on how distinct individuals learn best virtually, enable designs that promote deep learning in a digital context, and develop pathways to scale.

Core Duties
The Virtual Field Trips graduate student intern will play a key role in the development of immersive virtual field trips designed to support classroom science learning. Working closely with the virtual field trips team, they will:

  • Research and identify potential sites, topics, and engagement mechanisms for virtual field trips aligned to Next Generation Science standards.
  • Collect, curate, and create multimedia assets and content (e.g., 360 and regular photographs, video clips, and audio recordings) to support engaging virtual experiences.
  • Support the development of classroom-ready instructional materials, including lesson plans, instructional slides, and student facing materials to support the use of VFTs in classrooms and informal learning settings.
  • Ensure content is accessible and inclusive, supporting a wide range of learners.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to share progress, brainstorm creative approaches, and integrate feedback from educators and subject matter experts.

Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about the promise of virtual field trips and digital technology to enhance learning. They will have a desire to develop fun, creative learning experiences that utilize core mechanics of the learning sciences and incorporate a diversity of multimedia applications and hardware.
