About us:  

 

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country. 

 

Project Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico

 

Position Dates: September 1, 2025 - July 17, 2026 (46 weeks)

 

Position Description:

Four 46-week Student Conservation Association (SCA) Individual Placement participants to serve at San Juan National Historic Site engaged in Interpretation and Education activities.

 The four education placements will be trained on the history of the National Park Service, San Juan National Historic Site, education and interpretation programs for them to research, develop and offer education programs to the students and families visiting the park. As part of their position, they will welcome and providing information to park visitors at Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal. They might also have the opportunity to attend outreach events as well as assist in the scheduling of special events and school groups.

Member Key Duties and Responsibilities

·     Develop and provide education programs.

·     Assist during the opening and closing of the fortifications.

·     Welcome and provide information to park visitors at park entrance areas.

·     Offer education activities for students or children with their families visiting.

·     Run the Junior Ranger station by promoting the program, assisting children with the activities, do the Junior Ranger pledge with them at the end of the program and provide them a Junior Ranger Badge.

·     Assist during special events and outreach programs.

·     Assist with the scheduling of special use permits, school groups or tour buses to the park.

 

Member Marginal Duties

·     Assist with receiving tour busses and signing off on the number of visitors brought by each tour company.

·     Rove Park premises while providing information and orientation.

·     Assist with the creation of posts for park’s social media.

·     Make updates to park’s website.

 

Member Required Qualifications

Participants need to be able to speak, write and read in both English and Spanish in a proficient way.

 

Member Preferred Qualifications

List qualifications that are desirable but not necessary.

 

·     Have experience working with the public or with schools.

 

 

Member Benefits:

  • Living Allowance: $600 per week
  • Commuter travel allowance: $45 per week
